Sweetish sauerkraut. Serve with kielbasa or pork chops. May be prepared on stove or in crock pot.

Recipe Ingredients for Apple Sauerkraut

32 oz sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
1 large onion, chopped
2 medium apples, cored and chopped (tart or sweet-tart apples)
1/2 cup apple cider
1 cup water

Recipe Directions for Apple Sauerkraut

  1. Place first three ingredients into large pot or crock pot and stir to combine.

  2. Pour liquid over mixture.

  3. If cooking on stove top, cook over medium heat until light boil. Add water and stir occasionally to prevent sticking. After boil, turn heat to low and simmer for 30-60 minutes. Add liquid and stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  4. If cooking in crock pot, you may add meat. Cook on low 6-8 hours.
