Recipe Ingredients for Apple Sauerkraut

1 cup onion, sliced
1 tbsp butter
2 medium apples, peeled & shredded
1 tbsp lemon juice
8 oz sauerkraut, rinsed and well drained
1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice
1 tsp caraway seeds
1/2 teaspoon fennel seed, crushed

Recipe Directions for Apple Sauerkraut

  1. In a large skillet, saute onion in butter for 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

  2. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Add the apples, sauerkraut, apple juice, caraway seeds, and crushed fennel seeds to the sauted onions. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15 minutes.

  3. If you serve meat? Cook the meat or sausage and serve with sauerkraut.
