Recipe Ingredients for Apple Flaxseed Squares

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup whole flaxseed
1 cup Becel
1 egg
1/2 cup milk, non-fat
3 cups cornflakes
4 apples
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup splenda brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Apple Flaxseed Squares

  1. Prepare cookie sheet with spray or oil.

  2. Mix together in large bowl: flours, salt, flax

  3. Cut in Becel and mix til well crumbled.

  4. SEPARATE EGG and set aside the white.

  5. Mix the yoke with enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Stir the milk/egg mixture into the dough and mix until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough in half.

  6. Roll out half the dough into a shape to fit into the pan. OK to piece into place. Will be about the thickness of pie pastry.

  7. Crush the cornflakes and make sure there is 1 cup crushed. Sprinkle cornflake crumbs on top of the dough.

  8. Peel and slice the apples, then spread on top of the crumbs.

  9. Mix the 2 sugars together well then sprinkle over the apple.

  10. Sprinkle generous amt of cinnamon on top.

  11. Roll out the other half of the dough and lay on top. Crimp to seal as best you can.

  12. Beat the egg white til frothy and brush over top of the crust.

  13. Bake 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown. Cool.

  14. Store airtight up to 3 days, or frozen up to 3 months.
