Apples in a pie-crust-like pocket.

Recipe Ingredients for Apple Dumplings

1 1/2 c sugar
1 1/2 c water
1/4 t cinnamon
1/4 t nutmeg
2 c flour
2 t baking powder
1 t salt
2/3 c shortening
1/2 c milk
6 apples

Recipe Directions for Apple Dumplings

  1. bring first 4 ingredients to a boil

  2. cream together the next 4 ingredients then add the milk. Roll the dough into an 18 x 12 rectangle, and cut into squares then place the whole cored and peeled apples in the center of the square. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top of the apples and dot tops with butter. Bring corners together and pinch to seal.

  3. Place 1" apart in ungreased pan (pyrex rectangle). Pour syrup over and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
