A tasty apple crumble that can be served with cream, ice-cream or my favourite hot custard. The portions are very large so you could even make eight.

Recipe Ingredients for Apple crumble

75 g white flour
75 g wholemeal flour
100 g butter
50 g light brown sugar
675 g apples
25 g caster sugar
3 tbsp fresh orange juice

Recipe Directions for Apple crumble

  1. Heat the oven to 180c, 350F, gas mark 4. While it's heating nup, sift both types of flour into a large bowl.

  2. Tip any bits of bran left in the sieve into the bowl and then cut the butter into small pieces and add to the flour.

  3. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until it looks like fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the brown sugar.

  4. De-core and quater the apples before cutting them into small chunks. Put the chunks into another bowl and stir in the caster sugar.

  5. Spoon the apple into an oven proof dish and drizzle the orange juice over the top. Spoon the crumnble topping over the apple and spread it out evenly.

  6. Put the dish on a baking tray. Put in the oven for 35minutes or until the top is lightly browned.

  7. Lift out the crumble and let it cool for 5minutes before serving.
