Not the most nutritious dessert, but not too bad either

Recipe Ingredients for Apple Crisp

6 large apples, peeled and diced
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons molasses
1/2 cup white whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp dried ginger
1/8 tsp allspice
2 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Apple Crisp

  1. Toss apples with cinnamon and a small amount of sugar depending on tartness of apples. Place in well greased baking dish, such a casserole dish (apples should fill most of dish)

  2. combine topping ingredients in order, making sure to combine molasses and white sugar first to create a healthier brown sugar. Add butter last and use clean hands to combine in to topping. Should rememble damp sand in texture.

  3. Cover apples evenly and bake at 350 for about 40-45 minutes.

  4. Tastes great with Dannon Naturals Vanilla flavored yougurt, especially if you "Greek" it first to get rid of the whey and make it thick like whipped cream.

  5. Fiber may be a little off since apples are peeled for this recipe.

  6. Spices can be adjusted to personal taste

  7. can easily be made vegan by using a vegetarian margarine, or butter substitute (preferably one that is trans fat free).

  8. tastes great but I would recommend it for special occassions only
