I found this recipe in a booklet from MOTT'S Applesauce.

Recipe Ingredients for Apple Cheddar Nut Scones

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup margarine or butter
8 oz (2 cups) shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup walnuts
1/2 cup applesauce
1 cup diced apples
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 cup sugar

Recipe Directions for Apple Cheddar Nut Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

  3. Using pastry blender or fork, cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly.

  4. Stir in cheese and nuts.

  5. Add apple sauce; stir just until moistened.

  6. On floured surface, knead dough 5 or 6 times.

  7. Place on ungreased cookie sheet; press into 8 inch circle about 1/2 inch thick.

  8. Cut into wedges, separate slightly.

  9. Bake 12-16 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm. Makes 8 servings.
