Very yummy apple blueberry crisp. I have tried very hard to cut down the amount of sugar used. I use Cortland or Granny Smith apples. If you use sweeter apples, use less sugar in the filling.

Recipe Ingredients for Apple Blueberry Crisp

1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup oats
3/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup blueberries
6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Apple Blueberry Crisp

  1. For topping: Combine brown sugar, oats, flour, and salt in large bowl; toss to blend. Add butter. Use a pastry cutter/blender if you have one to work in butter to flour mixture. Eventually, use hands to rub in butter with fingertips until mixture comes together in moist clumps. Cover; chill while preparing filling. (Topping can be prepared 1 day ahead; keep chilled.)

  2. Preheat oven to 375F.

  3. For filling: Generously butter 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Combine blueberries, apples, sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon in a large bowl. Mix well to coat all apples and blueberries with sugar. Transfer filling to prepared dish. Sprinkle topping over.

  4. Bake crisp until filling bubbles thickly and topping is crisp and deep golden brown, about 40 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes.

  5. Makes 12 servings.
