A cross between a biscuit and a roll

Recipe Ingredients for Angel Biscuits

1/4 oz active dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
2 c buttermilk
5 c all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp salt
3 tbsp white sugar
3/4 c shortening

Recipe Directions for Angel Biscuits

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a small bowl.

  2. Let stand until creamy, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add buttermilk to yeast mixture, and set aside.

  4. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  5. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

  6. Stir in yeast mixture until dry ingredients are moistened.

  7. Turn dough out onto floured surface, knead 4 to 5 times.

  8. On a lightly floured surface roll dough out into 1/2 inch thickness.

  9. Cut out biscuits and place on a lightly greased baking sheet, barely touching each other.

  10. Cover, let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled.

  11. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until browned.
