Using the Starter from Denise Austin, this recipe ultimately results in 3 batches of starter. Each batch can make 2 loaves of bread or be used to make some more starter over the 10 day process described below. Please note that the recipe below starts with a bag of starter that you received from someone special.

Recipe Ingredients for Amish Friendship Bread (Serving = 1/12 loaf)

5 cup flour
4 cup sugar
3 1/2 cup 1% milk
3 eggs
1 cup oil
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 box vanilla pudding
2 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Amish Friendship Bread (Serving = 1/12 loaf)

  1. Start with the Starter bag. You can use this to bake the

  2. bread now or use it to make 3 batches in 10 days as

  3. described below. To make 3 batches:

  4. Day 1 - 5, mush the bag once each day

  5. Day 6, add 1 c milk, 1 c sugar and 1 c flour

  6. Day 7-9, mush the bag once each day

  7. Day 10, pour the contents into a non-metal bowl and

  8. again add 1 c milk, 1 c sugar and 1 c flour...divide into 3

  9. freezer bags...give away 1 or 2 bags. 1 bag is to

  10. restart starter and the 10 day cycle begins again!

  11. If you keep an extra bag for baking, preheat oven at

  12. 325, add contents of 1 bag to the rest of ingredients

  13. (excl. sugar and cinnamon) and pour into 2 large loaf

  14. pans that have been greased and floured.

  15. Mix 1/2 cup of sugar with the cinnamon and swirl it into

  16. loaves with a toothpick and sprinkle some on top.

  17. Bake the 2 loaves for an hour and allow to cool for 20

  18. minutes before taking out of pan. Enjoy!
