Recipe Ingredients for "American" Apple Cake

10 oz Self Raising Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 oz Golden Caster Sugar
3/4 tsp Salt
4 oz Stork SB
2 oz Cheddar, finely grated
1/4 pt Milk, Semi-skimmed
4 Apples
2 oz Soft Brown Sugar
2 tsp Cinnamon
1 tbsp Stork SB, melted

Recipe Directions for "American" Apple Cake

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, castor sugar and salt tosether. Rub in butter or margarine and mix in cheese. Add sufficient milk to make a soft, but not sticky, dough.Turn onto floured board and knead lightly.

  2. Pat out dough into 7" x 10" swiss roll tim (I used a silicone liner).

  3. Peel & core apples, and slice thinly. Arrange in rows across dough.

  4. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon mixed together. drizzle over the melted butter.

  5. Bake at 210C/400F/Gas Mark 6/190C(fan) for 25 minutes on centre shelf.
