I love hummus but can't find tahini where I live. The recipe from the Food Network's Alton Brown uses peanut butter as a substitute and is absolutely delicious.

Recipe Ingredients for Alton Brown's Turbo Hummus

1 3/4 cups chickpeas
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon black pepper, ground
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Recipe Directions for Alton Brown's Turbo Hummus

  1. Combine garlic and drained beans in a food processor until they form a paste.

  2. Add 1/2 of the reserved liquid from the beans, peanut butter, lemon juice, black pepper and salt.

  3. Add the olive oil and process until it reaches the consistency of mayonnaise.

  4. If you like your hummus with a bit of a kick, add in a handful of red pepper flakes. Yum!
