2 tbsp pure maple syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla

Recipe Directions for Alton Brown's Granola

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

  2. in a small saucepot, heat and stir the oil, syrup, salt and brown sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Don't let it boil.

  3. Mix remaining dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  4. Remove the liquid ingredients from heat and add the vanilla. Now pour over the dry ingedients and fold together completely with a rubber spatula.

  5. Spread out the oat mixture on the cookie sheet and flatten with the back of the spatula or your hands. Place in the oven and cook for approximately one hour (60 minutes). Start checking it at around 50 minutes. It should be slightly crisp and just starting to turn golden. It will crisp up a little more as it cools. Don't let it brown too much or it may taste bitter.
