Use only original all-bran; do not substitute. Any combination of nuts and dried fruit will make for interesting variations. the original recipe called for 1/2 cup honey and no peanut butter, but found it too sweet, so I added the peanut butter.

Recipe Ingredients for All-Bran Fruit Bars

2 cups all bran
1/2 cup chopped dried apple
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped
1/2 cup mango, dried, finely chopped
1/2 cup craisins
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup honey
1/6 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup skim milk
3 tbsp oil, Crisco
1 egg, beaten

Recipe Directions for All-Bran Fruit Bars

  1. Mix together everything but the egg. the more finely the fruit and nuts are chopped, the easier it will be to cut and eat.

  2. Add the beaten egg to the mix.

  3. Spread evenly into an 8 x 8 baking pan coated with cooking spray.

  4. Bake at 325 degrees fro about 30 minutes until firm in centre. Cool in the pan.

  5. Cut into 24 bars.

  6. Store tightly covered or freezes very well. Grab and go in the morning!
