Recipe Ingredients for 6 Grain Cereal with Fruit

1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp brown sugar Splenda
2 tbsp barley
2 tbsp millet
2 tbsp corn meal
1/4 c steel cut oats
2 1/2 tbsp wheat, bulgar
2 1/2 tbsp brown rice
1 1/2 oz dried cranberries
1 1/2 oz raisins
1 oz dried apricots, chopped
3 1/2 c water

Recipe Directions for 6 Grain Cereal with Fruit

  1. Before bed, spray medium sized crockpot with automatic keep warm feature with cooking spray. Add all ingredients, mix, and cook on low for 6 hours. Cereal will cook and then stay warm until breakfast. Stir and eat.

  2. Crock Pot Cooking Note: If using crockpot without keep warm feature, increase water by 1/2 c and cook overnight on low. Cereal will be softer.

  3. Or, before bed, bring all to a strong boil in saucepan on stove, then quickly pour into one or more Stanley (this is the only brand that will maintain food at or close to initial temperature for 12-24 hours) thermos containers, close tightly, shake, and lay on side overnight. In morning, stir and eat.

  4. Thermos Cooking Notes: Pre-warm thermos with hot water. Thermos size or sizes must allow for cereal volume expansion. Use of a canning funnel allows easier and quicker transfer of the boiling mix into one or more thermos containers. It is important that the mix be as hot as possible when going into the containers.
