3 Ways Fit People Stay Fit and Healthy
We all have those friends who we think can eat anything and still look good. How do they always look fit and healthy (even after you see them eating that slice of pizza, or a big piece of chocolate cake)? Chances are they have a few tricks up their sleeve. Most of the same tips for losing weight apply to everyone – drink water, don’t deprive yourself, do what works for you, but three in particular stand out as crucial keys that everyone should incorporate for a lifetime of fitness and health.
1. Stay fit and healthy by keeping good food around you.
Diet is part of the “diet and exercise for a healthy life” duo, but we’re mentioning it separately because while not everybody exercises, every body definitely eats. What you eat fuels your workout and your day, so a poor diet affects what you can do and takes away from the positive effects of your workout. For example, countless numbers of crunches and cardio only get you a flat stomach when paired with a clean, healthy diet.
So what’s the key? Keep healthy food around you. Pack your kitchen with fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Keep cut up fruits, vegetables, and nutrition bars handy at work or on-the-go so that you have something to enjoy when you get the munchies. Constantly surround yourself with choices you are proud of to balance out the days that aren’t exactly the healthiest.
2. Stay fit and healthy by creating a balanced lifestyle.
The key word in this trick is lifestyle, and the key to a healthy lifestyle is to find balance in all aspects of your life – diet, exercise, stress management, work, social life, and more. This means figuring out what works for you, because your life is unique and unlike anybody else’s. When is the best time for you to get in a workout? Is your schedule better suited for a trip to the gym, or a workout at home? How often can you eat out and still stay within a healthy calorie range for the week? What will you do for yourself to relax and manage stress? Rather than starting a diet and exercise plan (and then likely ending it) consider all of these questions to figure out how you can implement changes into your life and keep up with them in the long run. Those you consider fit do their best to lead a balanced life in this way.
3. Stay fit and healthy by being mindful.
Just like a healthy lifestyle involves figuring out what works for you, being mindful is all about listening to yourself, too. We usually associate mindfulness with eating – paying attention to our hunger and feelings, rather than being distracted by other tasks, while enjoying our food. You should also consider how your body feels. Are you too tired for a long workout? Do you need a few extra hours of sleep? Are you stressed and taking on too much? Your feelings and thoughts will help you make decisions that benefit you instead of harming you.
