Im currently at 175lbs - 5'4.
I really want to lose about 30lbs by Christmas but not sure if Im eating too much. Currently Im sticking to 1300 a day (sometimes a bit less, sometimes a little bit more - usually on weekends). Im doing Les Mills 'Body Attack' three times a week - does this sound like Im doing enough to shed the pounds? Im trying to eat as healthy as possible with the odd slip-up and my diet is reasonably varied.
Eating too much at 1,300?! Absolutely not. You could probably afford to eat a couple hundred more each day. I mean, I'm 5'2", 125 pounds and I eat about 1,700/day to lose weight (about 3/4 pound per week). I lift heavy weights three times a week and do occasional HIIT/intervals.
If 1,300 is working for you and you're eating a balanced diet then I suppose stick with it. However, I'm in the "if you can eat more and still lose, do it!" camp.
If anything, you're not eating enough. I lost 30 at 1500-1600, and then 10 more at 1700-1800, plus moderate jogging.
Don't overthink this too much. Pick a reasonable calorie allowance, exercise, and just do it for a few weeks. It will work.
I'm 5'2", and my starting weight was 178, so very similar to you. My exercise consists of walking a few miles per week; nothing strenuous.
My calorie intake at first was 1200-1300 and that was too little for me. I had cravings and was always looking for something to eat. After reading the comments on this site, I upped my calorie intake to 1400-1500, occasionally days up to 1600-1700, and it's much better.
I lost/am losing about a pound a week, 27 pounds so far. It's a little slower loss right now, but from what I've read, that's normal.
