I have been on phentramine for a little over two months and it aint doing crap for me. So Im giving up that. But then theres the new gastric one in a bottle..Anyone tried these? I think im just going to have to stick to the old diet and excersise routine...oh well :)

I don't know what new pill you're talking about. As for phentramine... my old roommate used it (she was about 5'3... 160) and lost 30 lbs on it not doing anything (no exercise or super healthy eating). Her mom lost a lot on it. I'm going to buy some soon and add it to my healthy eating and exercise. I'll just buy one bottle to try and if it works great... if not, then I just wated $90 haha.
It is true that when you stop taking it you will gain it all back and then some. Years ago, I took the Phen-phen which is Phentermine and another drug together. I lost over 60 pounds fast, my mom did too. Then, my doctor gave me Phentramine a year or two ago and I started losing again, doing nothing. As soon as I stopped I gained it back. So....here I am trying to lose weight the right (hard) way. I have already lost 4 pounds in the first week and I didn't think I would lose any for awhile. We all want the easy fix, but there isn't one. The pills will mess with your metabolism and ultimately you will probably gain it all back, plus some. Good luck!
I also took Phentermine in the PHen-Phen combo several years ago. I hated the way it made me feel. I don't care for that speedy feeling I already have enough energy so i would bounce off the walls! Thank god I did not take it for very long. I did get an ultrasound on my heart to make sure there was no damage. I did lose alot of weight but i was counting calories too and my guess that was the real reason I lost the weight. Since I have a history of heart disease in my family I stay far away from it.
I've been trying PGX, the fiber that swells in your stomach, I find it
really does fill you up, but you get diarrea because your body isn't
used to all the fiber! they say it goes away after about 3 days,
but I didn't want to put my body through that more than once on
purpose. I slowed down using it, about 1/2 of what's recomended,
and it does help eliminate a craving. If you try it, I would
recomend using a fruity flavour, mixing in blender w/ juice, and drink
it fast! It has an awful texture once it starts to expand!
Hope that helps!
There have been lots of posts about diet pills/weight loss aids... I won't repeat everything that has been said, but I will try to look up those posts.
I'll say this right now, literally every person I know who has tried any sort of diet pill has gained back all the weight they lost plus more. If all the negative effects on your health aren't a reality for you, hopefully that fact will be.
my mother has taken phentermine. She took it about 8 years ago, and went from in the low 200s down to 135. Unfortunately she did not keep it off, as she had to quit before maintainance could begin because she became pregnant. Now, years later she is trying it again and has lost 40lbs in the past few months. We will see how successful she is at keeping it off, but it is most important for her for the energy gain, to become more active again.
I started taking Phentermine about 3-4 years ago. At first it worked wonders for my appetite and with eating a healthy diet, I lost 20lbs in about 5 months. Of course when I stopped taking it all the weight returned because I wasn't eating healthy. I've tried it again off and on but I wouldn't recommend it. As a nurse, I've seen too many people take it that shouldn't have ( due to other medical conditions prior to them taking it.)
The effect of the pill also wears off the longer you've been on it.
I am now realizing that it's all about eating right, making right choices(which is hard to do when there's so many temptations out there) and exercising. I am new to CC, only been checking out the posts about 3-4 days now and I;m hooked. Love Coachdee and her input.
I have tried it three times ( should have given up the first time)after a week on it I get pulmonary hypertention and can't breath. It is dangerous. I was so desperate to loose wieght I almost killed myself using it. NOT WORTH IT.
Ok, so I have a new question about this. could you use this drug to quickly lose weight, while working out and eating right, and then once you reach your desired weight continue to exercise and eat the proper amout of calories to maintain the new weight?
This is going to seem snooty. But... Are you trying to be healthy or are you trying to be skinny? Putting drugs in your body is not healthy. In my opinion, being skinny is not worth the risk of doing something unhealthy.
I have used Rx Phentermine in the past, but like most things, if the habits don't make a permanent change, the weight won't stay off. I liked how it made me feel. Energized, but my bp went up about 10 - 15 points when I was on it long term (it was still well within normal limits) I did get a good appetite suppressant effect and it was much easier to control impulse eating when I was taking it. I could use some now in fact I am having a terrible afternoon and fighting with my husband and just really wanting to eat a whole gallon of ice cream or a bottle of tequila. Don't have either one in the house though haaa teen agers can be a real strain on a marriage.
Bad bad mojo. I have a pacemaker to prove it. Stay away. Stay far away!
Phen/fen combination in the 90's was all the rage. I got on it. I lost about 25 pounds without even trying. But I was down, mopey, tired all the time. I didn't care because I was finally losing weight without making an effort.
I kept feeling tired, and drained, and worn out though. I didn't know it at the time but my blood pressure kept dropping and dropping, which was making me tired. Then one day, I woke up. Before I fully arose from the bed, I lost consciousness and passed out, luckily falling back into the bed. I woke up some time later and tried to get up. This time falling out of the bed.
To spare everyone the gorey details, I was rushed to the hospital where I arrived in full cardiac arrest. They zapped me with the paddles to bring me back and I was fitted with my handy dandy pacemaker. (And yes, there really is a bright white light).
Stay away from phenteramine. Bad bad mojo.
New to the group but thought I would put my 2 cents in. I am currently on Phentermine and I find it easier to stick with my healthy eating plan while I am on it as well as my exercise regimen. I also once in awhile take Xenical when I eat a high fat meal. Every now and then I have 1 meal that is not healthy such as Mexican Food. I have lost 20lbs in the last couple of months. I just find Phentramine another motivation tool such as this website and not a way to lose weigh faster. I am pulling out all the stops this time. I am exersicing almost everyday, monitering my food intake and staying motivated to lose this weight to be healthy. If Phentermine helps with that then I am going to stick with it.
I took phentermine back in 1998 and went from 196lbs down to about 155lbs in about 3 months. I watched what I ate and counted calories. At that time I also like to go out to the clubs and drink so if I knew I was going to be drinking that night I would not eat that whole day. Needless to say I gained every bit of the weight and then some back within 3 years bringing my weight back up to 209lbs. So I was tired of being fat again so I started taking phentermine again in January of 2004 (determined this time to stick with healthy eating habits even when I went off the pills) I went from 209lbs down to 160lbs by the middle of March. I felt great, more confident, but now I am back up weighing 240lbs...that is more than I've ever weighed in my life even more than when I was 9 months pregnant. I have thought about taking it again only after sticking with healthy eating choices, but I'm not really sure. I never had any problems while taking it except its decreased effectiveness. My doctor was going to put me on Merida over a year ago but I've heard it has some bad side effects. If anyone knows about or has taken Merida please let me know if it worked. Thanks.
From my experience Merida and Phentermine seem like they do almost the same thing. After Phen-Fen went off the market, my doctor gave me Merida and it did not really help me. I was just paying more with Merida than Phentermine. As I mentioned before I also take Xenical a little bit when I have a high fat meal. This does have some side effects that might be displeasing to some people but I have gotten use to it. I do not mean to be graphic but before I got use to it and now can control it but there is a possibility you can have wet bowel movements that you cannot control and there can be oil in them as well. At first I had to do some clothes changing if I was not careful. The only reason I like it is because it blocks some of the fat to be absorbed in your body so when I eat a high fat meal I do not regret it so much and get back to eating healthy the next meal.
I am new to this web page but I have struggled with my weight for years. I have been on most fad diets. I lost the most weight with the Atkins diet but there again its not healthy and you do gain that back. I tried Phentermine and lost about 27 pounds in 2 months. I did not exercise or watch exactly what I was eating. I stayed on Phentermine for 2 months and stopped and I only gained back 5-6 lbs from being off of it. I never once after being off of it watched what I ate but now I had my doctor prescribe me enough for just one week so I can train my body to only eat certain foods and such. I really like Phentermine but the side effects (headaches, dizzy spells, etc) can be a little overwelming. But what diet isn't. I hope this helps but remember no matter what you do you, if you want to see long term results just maintain exercise and your diet! It sucks I know but we can do it!
Wow I got replies yah me lol. Well im almost oput of it. Honestly I dont think its the right stuff. I live in Germany so im limited on who can ship what. I got some from India. Its doing absoulutely nothing. No extra energy ect..But I am going to try Zetacap. You know the gastric in a bottle thing. It doesnt raise your heart rate like Phentramine.Just fills your tummy. My inlaws are on that. My main thing is eating when im bored. Like now, my husband brought home Oreos the butt!!But when ya put in your calorie intake it makes you change your mind. Yes im trying to be skinny..I am healthy, could be alot more. Im more active now. I mean yes im cheating..But darn it so are the people getting gastric right? I know a few people who have gotten it done and thye eat like they did before just less. So they are unhealthy to. I honestly wish I could have bipass so then I could get skinny. But I know its not for me,im under the weight limit, which is a good thing..
But on a second note I understand the health risks ass with all of these. I should be the one saying nono meds..My mom had a stroke off dexitrim when she was 22. She wanted to loose five pounds...
Dingocat..not to be rude, but leave the meds alone...the proof is in the posts..we are all here to be healthy not to see others "dying" to be skinny, there is a huge difference. Being an ex phen-fen user..the whole "once I lose it, I can keep it off" attitude does not work....I dropped 60 lbs..and gained it, plus a heap more. This time (like the 50th diet)..I started at 228 (I am 5'2") after a year I am at 183 and counting...diet and working out are the only tried and true methods of being HEALTHY...if you want to be skinny, go to the "I want to be a model" website..they can tell you how to be anorexic in a day...I feel that is what you want more than being healthy.....
I looked it up. This is some nasty stuff! Here's what it said about side effects:
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking phentermine and seek emergency medical attention:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
an irregular heartbeat or very high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision); or
hallucinations, abnormal behavior, or confusion.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take phentermine and talk to your doctor if you experience
restlessness or tremor,
nervousness or anxiety,
headache or dizziness,
dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in your mouth,
diarrhea or constipation, or
impotence or changes in your sex drive.
Phentermine is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it suddenly after several weeks of continuous use. Talk to your doctor about stopping this medication gradually.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Hi there, I just posted this on a different page but I thought I would take a moment and share my experience with phentermine on this post just in case you don't get to the other one.
My highest weight was 230lbs in June of 2004. I am 5'10" tall with a medium build. Obviously 230lbs was way to much even for being tall. I had a rip in my spinal column that was causing my right leg to go numb and I had serious lower back pain on a regular basis. My doctors knew that I had to lose the weight because it was pulling my lower back in further and causing more pain. My doctor put me on the highest dose of phentermine. For the first week I was so wound up I couldn't sleep but a few hours every night and that was from just being plain exhausted. I didn't do anything different with my eating patterns(they weren't very good at the time). I was still eating chips and drinking pop. I just found that I forgot all about eating. I had to remind myself to eat. Smelling food while driving by fast food restraunts didn't even catch my interest. Without changing any eating patterns I lost 25lbs. Soon I realized if I changed my eating patterns I could lose more a lot faster. So I started eating Healthy Choice meals and a better breakfast. By December of 2004 I had lost over 50lbs. Two months later in February of 2005 I started walking. My doctor took me off of the pills at that point because she felt that I was at a healthy weight, 180lbs. I still wanted to lose more weight so I started excercising a lot more by going to the gym and using the bike and doing Pilates. I have kept my weight at 175lbs(give or take a few) for over 16 months. I had tried every big fad diet in the last five years. The only drawback was that I had gotten constipated but that was a small price to pay! Phentermine has been the only thing that has worked for me. My sister started taking it two months ago and has lost over 30lbs. I hope you see the results that we have. Goodluck!
