Hey, I'm about 10 days old on this site, so I am pretty new at trying to lose weight. I'm at 170 and want to get down to about 130 or 125. I've lost 16lbs this year so far, but I have been at a plateau for a few weeks. I've lost 2lbs or so since then, but I really want to get things going again. I have been seeing a LOT of adds for acai berry supplements and colon cleansing tablets, and I was wondering if anyone has tried them with successful results, or if anyone knows if they are just a fad that really does nothing. I just wanted real info from real people before I spent any money on a farce.
I appreciate any help!
Reason: Cleanses are not considered to be a healthy and sustainable method of weight loss.
The only weight loss aid that really works is Alli but it can offer some negative side effects. The acai berry is a fad, don't waste your money. Colon cleanses can be helpful, they can make you feel better, but they will not help you get rid of fat. I did a colon cleanse (Slimquick $15) for 7 days and it really did make me feel better, like it had really gotten rid of toxins that had been sitting in my body forever. I did not lose more weight during those 7 days than I had already been losing with diet and regular exercise. Some people claim to lose 3-10 pounds using colon cleanses but remember, it's mostly water weight and excess yucky stuff. The Alli literally blocks fat from being digested and sends it out the other end. The negative side effects occur when the fat is coming out the other end...gas that's not really gas, stains in your underpants, some stomach cramping if you eat more fat than is allowed with the diet. In the end it does really work but you HAVE to stay true to the low fat diet, if you binge or eat something you're not supposed to, you're going to be in a world of hurt!
I've lost 17 pounds in the past 6 weeks and I've done it without any diet aids. It's easy to give up when you stop losing weight but don't stray from the diet and keep exercising. Do a colon cleanse if you want, it really did make me feel better during and after, but it's not going to make you shed FAT.
I hope that helps. I've paid good money before for things that were bogus. Good luck!
You didn't put the weight on over-night, so it's not going to come off that fast either. Weight-loss is a long journey and maintaining that loss is going to be a life-long process. There's no quick fixes.
Things like acai berry supplements and colon cleanses are simply going to make you shed a few from your wallet.
Colon cleansers might make you lose 5-10 lbs but its not fat loss. Its basically cleaning your system
how much did you lose using alli? It really works? I know I tried acai burn.. It just made me sick!! Good luck, I agree with the one lady, it took a long time to put it on, it will take a long time to take it off!! I know this program has been working for me. I lost 5 pounds in a couple of weeks... I am 36 so it's hard to get the weight off! When I was in my 20's it was a lot easier.. Good Luck!!
Save your money. Keep up the reasonable diet and exercise.
Please, before you consider a cleanse look at your fibre intake. The RDA for women is a minimum of 25g a day. You need to make sure you're getting enough soluble and insoluble fibre - Insoluble (the fibre that forms bulk and regulates acidity and PH in the gut) and soluble (the fibre that helps regulate blood sugar and cholesterol).
Insoluble fibre examples:
-- Whole-wheat pastas, breads, etc
-- Brown rice
-- Bran products
-- Fruit and vegetable skins, such as potato skins, tomato skins, plum/prune skins, apple skins, pear skins
-- Nuts and seeds, particularly flax, almonds, brazil nuts and walnuts
Soluble fibre examples:
-- Potatoes of all varieties
-- Psyillium husks
-- Legumes and pulses, especially lentils, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, pinto beans and soybeans
And pretty much all fruits and vegetables. Particularly raspberries, plums, bananas, sweetcorn, prunes, apples, pears, blackberries, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels, asparagus, artichokes and dried fruit. Again, never introduce lots more fibre without drinking enough water to compensate. There is a more detailed list of fibre sources here for future reference.
Before you go for the cleanse, PLEASE consider sorting your fibre out first!
Dangers of Colon Cleansing
THIS IS A SCAM!!! Got these free trials through the mail and did not get the auto shipment cancelled in time. It has cost me over $300 even though I sent the product back to them. There is no customer service whatsoever. And by the way--it didn't make me lose a pound.
Colon cleansing is a marketing sham and nothing more, when you get a colonic or take detox pills, they are simply removing the waste you were naturally going to expel tomorrow... not stuff that's "stuck in your intestines".
CLEANSES SHOULD BE PART OF ANY WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
We have to give our body time to adjust to weight loss!!
colon cleanse, kidney and liver...do all three, not at once but over several weeks. Maintain a diary, have a diet of no fat, no sugar, no salt ...when possible and drink distilled water 3 days a week during your cleanse(s).
Cleanse kits cost upwards of $100.00 but we can get the main components at any Heath food or bulk food store, for far less. Research the net for the cleanse that suits you.
Part of losing weight includes cleanses and although many contributors to this site disagree with me. Cleanses will help digestive organs work at peak efficiency which will allow the body to lose weight at a healthier rate. You also will be less likely to regain that weight because your organs have had time to adjust to the new you.
Losing weight slowly will allow the largest organ of your body, the skin, to shrink with your loss in weight. This will avoid the "loose skin problem" many experience when they lose weight to fast.
I'd like to know if anybody has tried an acai cleanse and if it worked. theres so much info. i tried one called Acai cleanse by Gardens Greens and it didnt realy work adn it wasnt to tasty either. has anyoone else tried that one?
In case you wonder, this was resurrected by a pill spammer. It's a fact that neither acai berries nor "colon cleanses" work for weight loss, and it's also a fact that spammers trying to scam you out of your money don't give a rat's ass about their junk not working....
Guys I live in Brazil, and actually women who are trying to lose weight avoid açai like the plague. It's a fruit packed full of vitamins yes, but it's also unbelievably choc full of calories. The weight loss property part is a scam. It's been touted as a "wonder food" - because of it's high vitamin and mineral content - but that's it. It's just a fruit. Taking the supplements has about the same effect as taking a multivitamin.
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
