I think that Ensure tastes horrible and revolting, and its nauseating to drink. I'm pretty sure that some of you guys drinking these nutrition drinks agree with me, right? =p
Well I experimented, and made a Berry Ensure Smoothie tonight and it was actually edible!
- Vanilla Ensure (prepared as directed), frozen
- Frozen or fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries or raspberries)
I used the Vanilla Ensure powder and mixed it as directed in a cup and put it in the freezer overnight. Then I took it out to thaw out a bit (otherwise it gets stuck in the cup lol) and chucked it in the blender along with about 10 frozen strawberries depending on how fruity you want it.
Tasted like a berry smoothie! No revolting ensure aftertaste as well =)
If you guys have any other suggestions, feel free to post ^^
I'm glad I found this thread! I want to try some of these ideas out RIGHT NOW, especially since I need to down at least one more Ensure before bed. Off I go to make some fabulous concoction! haha
Thanks for the ideas & I'm glad I'm not the only person who's had to drink lots of these during recovery. I guess it isn't sooo bad.
I'll suck it up and drink it lol

Ensure never fails at making me feel sick, on a few occasions in inpatient treatment I threw up after them. Now I'm at home I make milkshakes out of them by blending them with ice cream and topping. Or you could try using it to substitute milk in cereal or porridge/oats. Best of luck
It also makes me nauseous, especially if I drink it on an empty stomach, or wasn't feeling good to begin with.
Two things that help me with not getting sick is either mixing it with equal parts whole milk (8 oz whole milk to 8 oz Ensure/Boost/Wal-Mart generic kind). Or to have it with food, such as a sandwich, crackers, noodles/pasta, etc.. But I have to eat at least 1/4 of the food first, THEN drink and finish the snack as usual.
Ensure Powder tastes great (especially if you don't add too much water)! Bottled Ensure shakes are okay.
