Every morning when I wake up my legs and joints are all sore and stiff. I was wondering if this is a warning sign of arthritis or anything like that. My stats are I am a 33 year old female, I like in Scotland so we dont have the best weather here, its always cold and wet. I weigh 144lbs. I do exercise but it doesnt feel like the normal exercise type of pain and stiffness. I dont drink a lot of milk or yoghurt so I dont think i get a proper amount of calcium in my diet either so was basically wondering if I should take a supplement of calcium and maybe fish oils of some sort as I dont eat fish either. I eat pretty much every else though. Any suggestions would be greatly received.
I think its normal if you are exercising..Any excersise will make you sore because you are making small tears in the muscle which will heal themselves over a few days making the muscles bigger. Maybe stop exercising for a week and see how you feel, if you are still in pain it might be a good idea to go see a doctor!
I think it sucks, being female we are more likely to experience morning stiffness, I get it bad too.. Could be a million culprits, your bed for one. Your sleep positions, your diet (lots of salty or processed foods cause a lot of inflammation and lots of acidic foods cause crystalization in your joints) could be a lack of calcium, alot of foods eaten with calcium block its obsorbtion, could be minerals, such as magnesium. I find when I eat salty foods or peanuts I feel the worst when I wake up. To relieve it, a big glass of water and 20 minutes of cardio (70% HRM) does the trick. Fish oil supplements definitely wouldn't hurt either, not only the stiffness but brain, skin, hair, heart all benefit from it:P
Green leafy vegetables are good alternative sources of calcium if you don’t drink milk or eat yogurt. Do a search for non-dairy sources of calcium to find which foods are recommended. It would be a good idea to track your nutrition over a period of time to see whether you need more calcium instead of just assuming it and taking a supplement without checking. Some women have found that they are getting too much calcium.
Inflammation is one possible reason for the soreness upon waking. If you want to try an anti-inflammatory diet, do some searches for inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods so you know what to avoid and what to eat more of. There is hardly any disadvantage to trying an anti-inflammatory diet, because most of the anti-inflammatory foods are very good for you anyway, while sweetened and processed foods that you should avoid anyway are inflammatory.

I would suggest talking to your doctor about checking your RH factor as well as you ANA levels, then if those are both okay, look into checking for possible Fibromyalgia. If it turns out that you have one of the three things I suggest you get checked for then you'll find that the colder and wetter days may cause flare ups of the soreness. Also I would suggest that if you know you are not getting the right amount of calcium, you should definitely take a Vitamin D supplement, but also have your doctor check you to determine if you have any vitamin deficiencies.
If it's fibromyalgia, you will have a low Vitamin D level without taking a vitamin or proper exposure to the sun. If it's Lupus it can also effect your vitamin levels (Lupus is determined by the ANA test) and if it's Rheumatoid Arthritis (The RH test determines this), certain vitamins will help ease some of the joint stiffness even if it won't completely keep the pain from happening.
