My doctor told me that i have a vitamin d deficiency and to take 1000 iu's of Vitamin D everyday. I also want to take a multivitamin though. The multivitamin has 400 IU of Vitamin D in it. Is this okay or is it too much vitamin d? keep in mind i probably also get some vitamin d from food too.
Be sure to check this with your doctor, but from my own experience I believe that if you have a true deficiency, then 1400 IUs should be fine. I'm 21 but have osteoporosis (long story. . . and no, it's not from an eating disorder!) so I've been prescribed a 50,000 IU Vitamin D supplement to take once a week for two months. No, that's not a typo - it's actually 50,000 IUs! And this is on top of the 800 in my daily multi-vitamin. So, 1400 doesn't sound like too much for someone with low levels. (Most women over 50 are recommended 1200 IUs, vitamin-deficient or not.) After a few months, however, you should get a blood test done to see if you're back to normal. If so, you should return to the recommended 800-1000 total IUs per day (if you're under 50 years, 1200 if you're over), so you won't eventually overdose.

I would skip the double dose. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin so it takes your body a couple of days to use what you've taken in the multi-vitamin. So if I'm not mistaken, your body will rid itself of the excess it doesn't use.
Same with water soluble like Vit. C for example. It does no good to take more than your body needs, it will use what it needs and rid itself of the excess. Except for the water soluble, you need 100% everyday, whereas fat soluble, you don't need 100% daily value everyday because your body doesn't utilize it as fast.
Maybe in the case for redviolin, it might be different, but this should be true for folks not fighting any ailments.
One other thought: if your deficient in D, I know that D and calcium work hand in hand with each other so maybe you need to look into that as well.

Call your doctor and tell him/her how many units of vitamin D are in your multi vitamin, and ask if the 1000 units of D is in addition to that. My mother is on a therapuetic dose of 4000 units a day for a month to correct a serious deficiency and soft bones, so those doses can go pretty high. Your doctor is the only one who can explain exactly how much you need.
Definitely check with your doctor but FWIW I take 2000 IUs of Vitamin D all winter.

I do - and it's been prescribed by my doctor. I have a severe vitamin D deficiency as well, and she told me to take 2000 IU daily, plus extra calcium, plus a multivitamin. You could call and ask your doc for specifics, they might want you to take both kinds.
I take a multivitamin and was also prescribed a vitamin D supplement by my doc. Just call the drs. office and ask if it's cool with them. The pharmacist may also have an answer for you.
I just saw something on the news that said that many many people are deficient in D and they're finding that it can lead to many troubles including depression, fatigue and cancer. Google for more cause I'm just goin' off the top of my head here.
On a daily basis I take up to 7,000 IU of Vitamin D and TONS of other vitamins, minerals, etc (including a multivitamin)... What you just need to make sure is that the added ingredients in your vitamin does NOT have any added sugar, wheat, soy, hydrogenated ingredients because those are unhealthy. You should be perfectly fine though! If anything you are doing your body a TON of good!
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
