I read on internet today Iron deficency can lead to weight gain. Is it true or just a myth?

However, if someone's diet is very low in iron that could be because their general food choices are nutritionally very poor or imbalanced. People with a poor diet are often overweight because their food is unsatsifying, calorie-dense and the lack of nutrition means they have to eat a lot of it in order to get some nourishment. People who are suffering from 'tiredness' and 'lethargy' (see above) will often reach for foods rich in sugar, fat and starch in order to get an energy boost.

I'm anemic, and I've found that if I don't take an iron suppliment, or if I don't make the conscious effort to eat things with iron, I tend to crave weird foods (pickled artichoke hearts anyone?).
I think that when your body lacks something, it tried to make up for it by craving certain foods. Of course, just because someone crave sugar doesn't mean they're lacking it, but I think that for some instances, this can be true.
There was a study done a few years ago about children who ate dirt. It was found that they lacked certain vitamins in their diet, and the dirt had some of those vitamins present.

There's a condition called 'pica'... brought on by extreme mineral deficiency, often iron. Sufferers will eat dirt, chalk, ice-cubes, flour, raw potato... all kinds of things.
