# how do you measure.. yogurt?

does 125 g of yogurt = 125 ml of yogurt?

just wondering because i always eat 1/2 cup of yogurt and assume its the same as the 125g serving they mention on the label.

anyone know?

Grams are a unit of weight and not equivalent to milliliters which is a unit of volume...

I've noticed that whenever I've weighed my yogurt into a bowl with a measure line, it pretty well matches up 125g-125ml.  More liquidy yogurts might be different, but I find the half-cup equivalency to be accurate.

I looked up yoplait yogurt just for fun...

6oz = 170 g

If your yogurt has the same consistency (density) as yoplait then...

1/2 cup = 4 oz = 113 g

my yogurt IS yoplait! haha. hey this was so helpful, thanks!!! =)

Apparently 245g of yogurt = 250 mL of water. I've found quite a few sources that all give that conversion. Therefore, I just do equal. When it's 175g of yogurt, I measure out 3/4 of a cup.

1 mL of water weighs approximately 1 g.  Since yogurt is mostly water, I would guess that it would be a good approximation.
