So, I found this greek yogurt...Fage 0% total.
It has 20g of protein in 1 cup and only 130 calories and not many carbs. I am majorly lacking in protein so I thought this was great!
The only thing is - it's so plain! Not sweet at all, it's almost sour.
I love how creamy it is and I'm sure I would like it if I could get it sweeter - but without the sugar and carbs...if that's even possible.
I like to have mine with dry oatmeal and a bit of honey in it for breakfast.
Also add some onion soup mix in it and use as a dip for veggies.
Just plain as a sour cream replacement on baked potatoes.
Cinnamon is delicious with it (though I do add a little honey too)
Also it's amazing if you spread it heavily on apple slices with cinnamon on top.
A teaspoon of sugar or honey isn't going to break anyone's calorie budget... otherwise use it in savoury dishes - make some tzatziki with garlic and cucumber, or use it like sour cream.
A couple teaspoons of splenda and some berries does the trick for me. I like keeping the yogurt on the tart side though. Maybe a little bit of vanilla flavoring mixed in would help?
artificial sweeteners would do the trick, perhaps add some fruit too
but if you don't like the idea of artificial sweeteners/chemicals in your food, you could try Stevia, it's a natural sweetener derived from a plant, you can get it at health food stores and I have found it in the Walmart nutrition section
I also add it to soups where cream is used to thicken it up and add protein with not very many calories
Add some agave nectar to it. Very low cal and low on the gi list.
If you want instant sweetness I'd stick in some Agave Nectar or Organic Honey, but my favourite way with Greek Yogurt to top with baked apple: slice up an apple, put under the grill with a teeny bit of honey drizzled over or just on its own, and then when they're softened put them ontop of the yogurt with a few sunflower seeds. Truly delicious!
Have you tried Capella drops? They are awesome, a couple of drops gives you major flavor in anything - I use them in plain non fat yogurt and it tastes better than regular yogurt. capellaflavordrops dot com
I eat a TON of yogurt. There are so many things you can do.
For something sweet, top with honey, cinnamon, and walnuts. For breakfast I'll have yogurt with granola and no sugar added fruit preserves. Another breakfast option is a smoothie, I use a banana and frozen strawberries (or other frozen fruit).
I make a "dipping sauce" by adding garlic salt, chili powder, and cayenne pepper - goes great on a veggie burger. I add spices to 1T of yogurt and use it as salad dressing - hardly any calories compared to traditional creamy dressings.
My all time favorite is tzatziki (yogurt dip with cucumbers, garlic, and lemon).
I second the tzatziki it is WONDERFUL
I find Fage 0% to be quite tart - the 2% variety I think is much creamier and not tart (and the regular kind is so creamy but not as healthy)
I like to put raspberries in it.
1 tablespoon of peanut butter is awesome :)
1 word- truvia!
Two packets of that stuff will sweeten anything. Try adding a little vanilla extract to your yogurt as well.
If you aren't opposed to natural sugars then fruit is also a good way to kick the edge off of plain greek yogurt. Blueberries especially.
Anyway, I don't really like Fage 0% because it's too tart. I definitely prefer Oikos for my greek yogurt- I can even eat it plain, even though it took me a few tries to get used to it. Different brands have vastly different flavors even if it's advertised as the same type of yogurt.
Get a higher fat kind, you'll thank me later..
other than that try chopped strawberries, vanilla extract or tahini
get oikos plain. so much better imo.
anyways, cinnamon and cocoa powder. Delish.
I use Hershey's sugar-free chocolate syrup, and cinnamon! The syrup is sugar-free (obviously) and has only 15 calories per 2 tablespoons. It's sweetened with Splenda. I didn't like it at first, but now it's the only thing I'll mix with my plain yogurt! Sometimes a natural jam or apple spread is yummy mixed in also, if you want a fruity rather than chocolatey flavor.
Sugar Free Maple Syrup
Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie Spices
Roasted Butternut Squash
Baked Apples or Pears
Just wanted to second this. For a 5.3 oz container at 80 calories with 15 grams of protein, I put in just one envelope (the pink one ) of artificial sweetner AND just the quickest sprinkle of about 1/4 teaspoon of instant coffee crystals and mix it super fast with a spoon and I swear it is like creamy sweet heaven in your mouth. I love it.
These sound awesome! Which ones do you reccommend?
