we have real potatoes and i was going to use them, but my father insists on these smoked swiss& bacon flavoured instant mashed potatoes, which without butter are 130 cals per serving. i already have to add milk, so will the consistency be alright without butter? i prefer not to use it, plus he plans on using the rest of the margarine in the stuffing (which i dont eat anyway =])
if anyone knows, id love some help.
I make instant mashed potatos with just WATER! If I'm eating them just by themselves (not with another food on my plate) then sometimes once they are on my plate i'll use a tiny bit of "smart squeeze" which is a margarine in a squeeze container. its only 5 cal per TBSP.
but remember NOTHING is going to compare to REAL milky buttery mashed potatos, so you either have to decide to forgo taste for amount, or amount for taste!

Those instant mashed potato things are meant to be made up just with hot water... they have milk powder and butter flavour and all that stuff in them. Personally, I think they're vile because they taste soooo artificial. But if you have to make them, just follow the directions on the packet.
Thats not true for all, actually any, of the instant mashed potatos i've seen. I'm vegan so I ALWAYS read ingredients.
I've only seen the ingredients contain dehydrated potatos (sometimes salt or citric acid or other preservative), you add water (obviously) & then anything else you want beyond that. They do NOT contain the butter & milk unless you add it and the directions tell you to add them for best results.
& I like them, the ones i've had are just potatos- so they taste just like potatos! Only lots more convenient.
