which way is the healthiest to cook an egg?
i've been trying to eat more eggs lately so i'd like to know. (:
so yeah, boiled, scrambled, sunny side up? which way?
should i just eat the egg whites?
i'm doing this because i heard eating eggs can fight off my fat belly.
i dont think there is a healthiest way. maybe the one with the least oil? I like mine hard boiled because it doesn't have anything apart of it except the egg whites and omegas from the yolk. That or poached.
For scrambled or over easy, try using a good quality oil like olive oil and go easy on the heat.
Away from home, a hard boiled egg is a handy way to have some protein after your workout. We take them on road trips without refrigeration. You can't really carry around chicken breasts in unrefrigerated gym bags.
You can add a lot of healthy things to scrambled eggs: diced bell peppers, onions, jalapeno peppers, anaheims, cucumbers (add last), Kale (stir fry first) and even little cubes of a precooked potato.
Eggs from cage free chickens don't cost much more and have a darker orange to the yolks (more beta carotene), because they get to eat bugs. If you ever get the chance, try eggs from a small, local farmer (maybe someone that has chickens in their yard).
I found duck eggs to taste even better than chicken eggs. Goose eggs are too rubbery for my taste.
Healthiest, would probably curtail a method that doesn't expose the yolk to high heat or oxygen, so I would think poaching to be one of the better methods. This is anal of course, but you asked. Healthy needs to have context as well, what is healthy for me might not be healthy for others....I like soft scrambled with a little chive and butter. I really like a fried egg sandwich, and I wouldn't throw out an egg salad sandwich either. I like eggs in chocolate, they help make the perfect mousse. I like hard boiled for traveling or in a salad which doesn't mean I can't take a slice of an omelet or fritatta instead. Eat eggs anyway and everyday.
Best way would be egg whites only.
Healthiest ways of going about it would be boiling and not eating the yolk, or you can spray with non stick spray and then scramble. Whites only would be ideal but if you wanted a more traditional taste then try 1 whole egg, 1 egg whites only. Or another combination which the egg white ratio is higher than the whole egg.
The yolk has all the nutrition an egg has to offer outside of protein...

Poached in a non-stick pan, or hard boiled. Buy organic/free range if you can afford them. I'm lucky to get local raised eggs and she puts a couple of duck eggs in the carton when she has them. I especially like the brown eggs and the green ones from the Aracona (sp?) chickens.
It does not really matter how you cook them it is what you add. Frying in oil would not be the best idea. Instead use a little non-stick cooking spray. Scrambled eggs are great, add some fresh vegetables, herbs and spices.
Hard boiled in a salad or mixed with tuna on a whole grain bun or lettuce wrap.
Egg burritos mixed with seasoning and black or navy beans and some chili peppers, wrapped in a whole grain tortilla with some hot sauce.
If you like your eggs fried, I found the best thing to do is spray the pan with some Pam so the egg doesn't stick (once the pan is hot). Crack the egg and then cover the pan with it's lid and the egg will cook from the steam inside. I like to have my eggs cooked almost all the way, leaving a white coat over the yolk, but the yolk still runny (I'm sure there's a name for it for this style... I can't think of it at the moment). I've cooked this way for some time now as I found using oil instead and flipping the egg was causing me to break out around my mouth. I suppose you could still flip the egg with the Pam but I've broken too many egg yolks trying.
*Poached or Boiled because no added fat is needed but if you do want sunny side up, over-easy or scrambled use olive oil to prepare them.
*I make over easy eggs for breakfast every morning and while they cook I sprinkle cilantro, paprika, salt & pepper on them, a delicious combo for sure! Oh and to give my eggs a little more bulk, I add a few egg whites from the carton as well!
