I've never been a breakfast eater but would like to start...I would have to eat on the go, any ideas? I like to make sure there's protein, fiber and that it's healthy.
Monday-Friday I have half a cup of oatmeal with slices of a small banana and a touch of 1% milk
Weekends I splurge a little and have a pretty big bowl of mixed cereal (cornflakes, muesli, bran flakes, special k, kashi go lean crunch) with half a cup of 1% milk.
An egg or egg whites (protein), scrambled or hard boiled, in a whole wheat pita or wrap (fiber.) Add tomatoes, spinach, or whatever veggies you'd like to up the nutrition content.
For something sweet, put a banana (fiber, vitamins) in a whole wheat wrap (more fiber) and add peanut butter (protein, healthy fats) and maybe a drizzle of honey.
A piece of fruit and a yogurt is always a good healthy protein and fiber combination.
A bowl of high fiber cereal with skim milk and maybe some fruit on the side.
A whole wheat waffle smeared with a little peanut butter.
And of course, for when you have the time, oatmeal is an awesome source of fiber and can be paired with tons of toppings.
There are tons of possible combinations! Have fun with it and be creative. Breakfast is pretty much my favorite meal, I think!
my breakfasts usually consist of egg whites, with some kind of grain, some kind of fruit and some dairy
my fave combos are:
- all bran guardian with 1/2 cup almond breeze, a sliced banana and egg whites on the side
- a luna bar, egg whites, starfruit and a yogurt
My daily breakfast ...
- one cup Fiber One cereal
- one half cup unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze
- one toasted Thomas' multigrain english muffin
- two tablespoons roasted red pepper hummus
- one cube, Laughing Cow Light Gourmet Cheese bite
About 280 calories ... and more fiber than anyone could ever want!
Every day I have the same thing:
Coffee + 40g oats with berries or chopped peaches or grated apple, some artifical sweetener and 2/3 cup of skim milk and rose water... then I dilute it with water from the kettle because it becomes too thick and finally I add about a teaspoon of ground cinnamon. It's delicious. And addictive. Did I mention I have this EVERY MORNING. Sometimes I eat it for afternoon snack too.
If I'm out, I'll have toast with vegemite or some corn flakes with skim milk - I might even skip breakfast altogether because nothing, and I mean NOTHING, sounds as appealing as oatmeal
i might have ezekiel cereal/cinnamon raisin ezekiel cereal with fruit, nuts.
or scottish oatmeal or porridge.
or sourdough toast with yogurt, nuts, nut butter, etc.
i always have some type of whole grain, fruit and always try to eat over 20 grams of protien at breakfast.
As I eat about 4000 calories a day I generally have a rather big breakfast...
1 cup oatmeal w/1 cup soymilk
+ 3 egg omelet w/various green veggies
+2 slices whole wheat bread
Probably about 800-850 calories.
I recommend having a good serving of protein with breakfast. Eggs, lean turkey bacon and a piece of fruit is a much better breakfast than the typical cereal and milk or oatmeal.

and a banana.
I mix it up with a combination of the following during the week:
1 cup grain (cereal, oatmeal, oat bran,etc.)
1/2 cup skim milk
1 serving of fruit
Coffee, tea or sugar-free hot chocolate all with the other 1/2 of the cup of skim milk.
Total calories: About 300.
On the weekends, I 'splurge' as well. Saturday I had a proportioned pancake (150 calories) complete with country crock and pancake syrup - not the healthiest breakfast I ever had, - but whaever I needed a break from the everyday.
Today (sunday) I had: 2 egg whites with 1/2 oz cabot 75% light cheddar, a light english muffin with country crock spread, and 1/2 cup of light cranberry juice.
two slices whole wheat toast w/ 1 tbls peanut butter and cinnamon + one cup milk and an apple
cheerios w/ banana
two slices whole wheat toast w/ 1 tbls butter with cinnamon and sugar + one cup milk and an apple
2 pieces of whole wheat toast 1 tbsp peanut butter
Half a hardboiled egg
I have one of two breakfasts.
Oatmeal w/raisins or Kashi/Fiber One with milk and berries.
Protein in the form of either cottage chese or a hardboiled egg.
My 'on the go' breakfast was almost always this'

I'd make a bunch of hard boiled eggs at a time so I at least have enough to last me the week rather than making them on the spot.
I'd eat this and down a 24oz bottle of water on my commute (no I wasn't driving)
Eat the yogurt first so then you have an empty cup you're planning to throw away anyways for the eggshells to go into. Wash it down with water.
If I had time, I'd also have an English muffin with jam or laughing cow cheese spread or maybe I'd nuke some turkey bacon.
Lately, I've been taking an egg (and sometimes an extra egg white, or just egg whites), .25 cup of skim milk, and pepper, mixing it together, and microwaving it, and having it on a piece of toast. Plus 2 or 3 Morningstar veggie 'sausage' links with a tsp of maple syrup, and a serving or two of fruit. Usually less than 350 calories, and really yummy. =]

Since I wake up early (5:30am), I don't usually eat until I get to work at 8:30am ... and I like to break up my meals -- so my morning meals usually are:
1 cup raisin bran cereal
1 cup non-fat milk
8oz of non-fat yogurt
apple or banana
That usually gets me to around 1/2pm - and then I eat lunch.
I like to mix it up
1 slice light five grain toast, 1T natural peanut butter, 1/2 banana, cereal, 1/4 c. milk ~320 cal
1 fried egg, 1 slice light toast, .5oz brie spread, 1/2 banana, 1T natural peanut butter ~330 cal
blueberry pancakes (krusteaz) with sweetened coconut flakes, usually with a little peanut butter and maple syrup ~340 cal
also: 100 calorie bagels, apple with peanut butter, occasionally bacon, basically I love breakfast
My only true breakfast staple: Coffee.
