I loveeeeee eggs. I always thought that they were good for you until I came here and put two eggs in my food log and my cholesterol was very high at the end of the day. I switched to just egg whites after that but it's just not the same. Plus I can't help but feel like I'm wasting food since I have to get rid of the yolk. So is it really that bad to eat a whole egg?
My mom has high cholesterol and I've heard if it runs in the family people can get it when they're in their twenties. I obviously don't want to end up being put on medication or anything someday, so if it really is bad I guess I'll give them up.
Eggs contain healthy cholesterol! It's called dietary cholesterol and it's found naturally in products such as eggs, offal and prawns.
What really has an effect on your unhealthy cholesterol is saturated fats. These can be found in products such as butter, red meat, cream, cakes, biscuits, hard cheese, pastries and many processed foods.
If you're really worried about cholesterol the first thing you should try to cut out are the foods containing saturated fats, not the foods containing dietry cholesterol.

No! The cholesterol in eggs (or in any food really) does not increase your cholesterol. Saturated Fats & Trans Fats are what cause cholesterol (and not the good kind) to rise! So eat up on those eggs and try to buy the omega-3 enriched ones too just to get more BANG for your buck! :)
okay, well is it still bad to go over my limit in healthy cholesterol? because it does go high pretty fast. like today i ate two boiled eggs with a salad and that put me over.

Honest to God, I eat 2 eggs (with yolk) every morning for 6 out of 7 days of the week for years now and I've never had a problem w/ cholesterol - in fact I just had it checked last week and it was fine.
Same thing goes for shrimp, don't worry about the cholesterol content in it.
I would say it probably depends on a person's genetics. Overdoing the eggs may or may not be good for people's cholesterol. I read some AHA studies a while back that said two eggs a day cooked a certain way may not have much of an impact. Hell I consume about two dozen eggs a week in addition to meats that contain it such as chicken with the skin and my cholesterol count is very much normal.
Like others said, watch your consumption of saturated fats, which has been proven to affect your cholesterol. Also, if you are still weary of overconsuming eggs, then you can always request a CMP from your doctor which will give you a breakdown of your various levels.
According to studies I read a couple months ago, some people's LDL cholesterol is raised by eating eggs, while others aren't affected. If you have a family history of high cholesterol I'd guess that you might be affected. If your LDL is already high I'd avoid eating a lot of eggs.
LDL is bad cholesterol, HDL is good cholesterol. So far as I know there's no differentation between forms of LDL. If you have hereditary cholesterol problems, your liver will make cholesterol out of anything you eat. Not overeating and losing weight can help, but you may end up having to use statin drugs to overcome your heredity.
Egg yolks have nutrients that the white part of the egg don't have. The whites are just protein. I wouldn't worry about cholesterol over a couple eggs. To qoute Gi-Jane "If you like eggs....eat eggs" ahah.

I love eggs too but I haven't had them in awhile..because I always thought the yolk's cholestrol wasn't good since we're supposed to avoid it when we get older. Plus, the yolk itself has 5g of fat!!!
I guess it depends wether you boiled them or fried them
