I injured my hamstring about 6-7 weeks ago. I believe it's a tendon injury b/c of the "pings" I felt when I injured it- doing a yoga position of all things! I was too ambitious. I have been able to maintain a good cardio and strength routine while not over stretching the hamstring. However, 2 nights ago I tried to run for the 1st time since injury and couldn't even complete 1 mile. It still hurts to push off that leg. Am I missing something I should be doing? Stretch? Don't stretch? Continue my exercise routine? Does anyone have a similar experience who can shed some light on recovery time? Thanks.
I pulled a groin muscle running, tried to tried to return to running too soon and then pulled a hamstring muscle. This was in early January. It still hurts a little. I've slowly started running again after 2 months and 3.5 weeks of physical therapy. The therapist gave me some stretches to do and specific weight machines to do. I started off with very little weight and increased each time (3 days a week). Last night I ran 5 miles on the treadmill in about 48 minutes, and I don't hurt any more than I did before I ran. The orthopedic surgeon AND the therapist told me to stretch and rest long enough for it to heal or it would become a chronic problem the rest of my life. I hope this helps. Good luck!
