So I'm running a 5k in the evening next Saturday. I have only ran two so far and they have been in the mornings so I'm not sure how I should eat during the day or before the race? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I would suggest doing your next few runs in the evening, and trying things out. For me, I don't like to eat anything major within an hour of running, or I don't feel so good. At the same time, at least for longer runs, I can crash if I it's been too long since I ate. But it was trial and error to find out what worked.
For your morning runs, do you eat before you run? What do you eat, and how long before (if you do)? I'd start with something similar for your evening run...
Thanks for the suggestions! With my schedule it's almost impossible to run in the evenings, but I do run in the afternoon, so maybe I should stick to what I eat for lunch on that day, just eat a little later?
After getting used to the afternoon runs, I'm hoping the evening run will be cooler and maybe help me push my time.
Usually in the morning races I eat a banana and peanut butter about an hour and a half before the event.
It's a 5k... it'll be over in under half an hour, so doesn't require any carb loading etc etc.
I would just avoid eating within 90mins of the race, that's all.
