Will walking/jogging 3 miles a day make my butt firm? I love my butt, Im a black girl and junk in the trunk runs on both sides of my family but big stomachs and arms run on my dads side so when i gained weight I gained it everywhere and now I only want to lose weight from the waist up, I do a variety of crunches and dance moves to work my abs and I use arms bands to slim my arms but I don't want walking/running to make my butt tight and firm
Reason: Locked to prevent resurrection...again...
you can't choose where to keep your fat - but I would think if you aren't wanting to lose the butt then just sit on it and eat at a deficit and you'll loose muscle mass and keep the fat.
But honestly being a white female and since lifting weights I get a lot of males after my arse and many are black males. I used to have a flabby butt, now it's smaller but better shape and I get a lot of compliments of it.
You're kidding, right?
spot reduction doesn't work. Your body will decide from where it will lose fat. If you've always had a big butt, you will probably still have one after you lose some weight.
Haahaha, you crack me up. I have a butt too and working out didn't make it any smaller just firmer. In fact more muscle mass might have made it a bit bigger.
It's going to firm it. I mean it's not going to get super firm unless you actually do some sort of butt exercise however it will firm a bit. There isn't any way of knowing exactly how firm it will get because everyone's body is different. For me, I lose weight in my boobies first. I don't want them to get smaller but it's the price I'm going to pay. I would rather drop a cup and be healthy then keep it and end up with worse problems later. I'm sure your butt it still going to be nice and curvy and the up side, none of those awful shots later.
Most people will lose weight first from where they gained it last so if you had good junk before you put on the extra pounds you should still have good junk when the extra pounds are gone.
Um, why wouldn't you want to have a firm butt? Toning it doesn't make it smaller, just stronger and more round and muscular. I think more guys are attracted to that than they are to one that's just a big pile of flab. Exercises that target your glutes won't make your butt smaller. If anything, it'll get bigger! It'll just look rounder and more compact. Being half hispanic, it's in my genetics to have a big bum as well, but mine is pretty firm and muscular because I build muscle well and I work out. It seems to be an attractive feature, because I've had several friends and family members joke around and make positive comments about it. (...but that does intimidate me a bit since I'm just a teen! 0.o)
Don't worry about your butt shrinking. Just continue exercising and eating a calorie deficit. If it's in your genetics to have a big bum, then it's probably going to be one of the last places you lose weight anyway. But honestly, you really should try to tone every part of your body, including the glutes. A strong, toned body = more energy = faster metabolism = an easier time keeping excess weight off ;)

No I'm not kidding!!!!!! I'm so very serious........I have to get active bc I'm pre diabetic. I know I'm not gonna lose my butt I've always had a big butt even when i was smaller, I just don't want to tone it or make it firm at all. All I'm asking is if I'm walking/jogging everyday will my butt get firm or will it stay the way it is?
Unreasonable expectations of body composition or diabetes..... tough choice.....
A large bag of chips daily should allow you to exercise AND keep your fat butt.
If only I wanted my butt to stay jiggly, I would be so much less frustrated right now! :) I run and I do strenght exercises ... trust me, it is not that easy to firm up and to lose that softness so don't be afraid, just start exercising. Plus, health should be your number one goal, everything else is secondary and complementary! Good luck!
I am so glad you posted this !!! I feel the same way .. I dont want a body builder butt ..honestly even if it looks good .. i dont want it to feel hard and firm .. my boyfriend hates hard ..tight muscular butts to he thinks its a turn off to lol...personally I love belly dancing (work amazing) and hip hop to for cardio then only upper body workouts like push ups crunches etc for shaping ..also holds instead of reps like yoga u hold until ur sweating instead of contracting muscles over and over to get bulky muscle.. also for all over fat loss cut down on junk..no useless foods especially if you have a slow metabolism and take in high protien things , dairy , beans , anything healthy from mexico seems to go to the butt avocada , black beans , flat bread etc ... my friend wraps cellaphane around her stomach and arms when she works out and it seems to work but i hate the sweaty feeling..also detox is good , green tea , continue black coffe if u do and if u have alot of weight to loose upper body u might have to sacrifice some booty but you will still have it if you do like jumping jacks , swimming, rope climbing, boat rowing , dance , yoga, also silly things to get the heart pumping u can come up with that dont involve the legs like sitting on a sled or sumthing similar tie a rope to like a tree and pull urself to it etc... pole dancing also is good .. all those things seem to be what i have found about this .. i hope i helped u out some ! keep that booty girl .. people just cant understand how much better a big jiggly butt is until they have one.. haha
Just wanted to say that I lift weights and my butt is still soft and jiggly. There is a sufficient layer of fat on my butt that is NOT going anywhere, even though I do have rock-hard glutes underneath all the junk.
So DON'T WORRY about losing your booty. You will still have it. It will still squish. Exercise for your health! It is healthy to exercise. You will love it.
And for the record, my already-large butt has gotten larger since I started lifting weights. I know a lot of people don't want their butts to get bigger but I too love a big juicy butt. :D So you might consider adding in a weight lifting routine in addition to walking!
Good luck to you!
And the zombie thread award goes to...
I exercise and have 18% body fat and I still have a soft bum with muscle underneath. My bum is a little tighter and higher, but not overly hard.
Yeah, you really don't need to worry about it. Body builder butts don't happen on accident...especially to women. Shoot, I've been trying to get mine rock hard for several years and still have some work to do.
That's some solid advice.
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
