Should you choose Gatorade or Powerade to refuel with electrolytes post working out? The first question you should be asking yourself is if you need any type of energy drink. You may not if your workout is less than 60 minutes and not intense, or didn’t cause you to sweat. Many people automatically go for a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade because they think it’s important to hydrate. However, even if you are exercising intensely longer than 60 minutes, you only need about 8 ounces of a sports drink (most bottles contain 2-3 times that amount) to reap the electrolyte benefits. You can hydrate properly the rest of the way with good old, zero calorie water.
Is Gatorade or Powerade Healthier?
The health benefits of Gatorade vs Powerade are to provide you with electrolytes that you lose in sweat such as potassium and sodium. Gatorade provides more sodium for less calories and sugar so may be the better choice to replenish your body and prevent muscle cramping. While Powerade contains additional vitamins, you’re better off getting those from a post-workout snack than from a beverage.
