6 Gluten-Free Frozen Waffle Brands

A diagnosis of celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite convenience foods, like frozen waffles. Gluten-free food manufacturers have stepped up to provide gluten-free frozen waffle options for those adhering to a gluten-free diet.

You can enjoy apple cinnamon waffles or waffles fortified with omega-3 fatty acids, or choose traditional favorites like plain or blueberry waffles. If you’re a parent looking for kid-friendly gluten-free foods, mini-waffles might do the trick. And you can keep all of them conveniently in your freezer, ready to pull out and pop into the oven, toaster, or toaster oven.

Kashi

Kashi offers two different types of frozen gluten-free waffles: Original and Cinnamon. Both types also are non-GMO verified and vegan. Note that they contain oats. Other ingredients include tapioca, pea, and flax.

Kashi's frozen waffles are gluten-free to less than 20 parts per million since they carry a gluten-free label. They are not made in a dedicated facility, however. Note that Kashi also makes gluten-containing waffles in several flavors, so make certain to purchase the correct box: look for the large "gluten-free" designation.

The Canadian gluten-free manufacturer Kinnikinnick Foods makes three varieties of frozen waffles: original, cinnamon/brown sugar, and blueberry. They include non-GMO corn starch and may contain traces of eggs, but are free of other major allergens, including dairy, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts.

Kinnikinnick waffles are available in a variety of grocery stores and health food stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. All Kinnikinnick products are made in a gluten-free facility that's also free of oats.

Nature’s Path markets several different gluten-free waffle flavors: Homestyle, Chia Plus, Dark Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip, Flax Plus, Pumpkin Spice, Blueberry, Penguin Party Cinnamon, Polar Beary Blueberry, and Buckwheat Wildberry. If you are lucky enough to have a Trader Joe’s nearby, the quirky market chain offers two different types of frozen gluten-free waffles: plain and banana. The waffles aren’t always in stock, so it might be best to buy in bulk when you find them, especially if this is your favorite frozen waffle.

Van’s Natural Foods

Van’s Natural Foods makes four varieties of gluten-free waffles: Original, Ancient Grain, Apple Cinnamon, and Blueberry. All are dairy- and egg-free and made with whole gluten-free grains.

Van’s waffles tend to be widely distributed and are available in many, if not most, areas of the country. Even supermarkets with limited gluten-free sections often carry one or two varieties. Van's gluten-free waffles are also certified gluten-free by the GFCO.

Wegmans

Wegmans' plain gluten-free waffles are made with brown rice flour, potato starch, cornflour, and tapioca starch. They're sweetened with fruit juice concentrate (pear, peach, and pineapple juices) and are gluten-free to less than 20 parts per million. However, they are not produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility.

Wegmans grocery stores are found in seven states in the northeast and mid-Atlantic region: New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Delaware and Washington, D.C.

A Word From Verywell

Gluten-free frozen waffles are available in most larger grocery stores. If you don't find them with conventional frozen waffles, check in the frozen gluten-free section (many stores have a separate section for frozen gluten-free products) or in the frozen natural foods section.

If you can eat oats, you should be fine with any of the brands listed here. If oats are problematic for you, steer clear of Kellogg's and Kashi brands, and choose one of the others.
